Today’s Weather:

We were expecting some weather today and definitely received some. The winds started early and proceeded to pick up extremely. We had up to 50 mile an hour gusts with mostly windy conditions. Around mid morning we had heavy snow flurries that persisted into the afternoon. Prevailing windy conditions were the order of the day with lows in the 30’s with afternoon temperatures in the low 50’s.

Today’s River Flows:

Releases from Glen Canyon Dam in February, 2007 on Mondays and Fridays will vary between a low of 8,500 cfs to a high of 14,500 cfs. On Saturdays, release fluctuations will vary between a low of 8,500 cfs to a high of 14,000 cfs. On Sundays, release fluctuations will vary between a low of 8,500 cfs to a high of 13,000 cfs.

Today’s Fly Fishing:

Today was all about dealing with the wind at hand. With a little luck and skill a day like we had today is do-able. The weather conditions were tolerable at times as there were breaks in the wind providing some chance to recast. Wooley buggers worked for a group of anglers that we heard from tonight. Otherwise scuds, midges, and glo bugs were picking up a few strikes. There were reportedly 10 boats on the water today and all seemed to take the conditions in stride. Tomorrow will hopefully bring sunny conditions as the 10 forecast discloses.

Today’s Walk-in Fishing:

No new reports received today. As of late it is hard to locate the fish in this section. Glo bugs, scuds, and san juans are recommended.

Spin Fishing Report:

This is the latest report received. Fishing with plenty of lead and bouncing you offering near the bottom of the river is effective, while using red san juans, and large egg patterns.

Projected River Flows:

Releases from Glen Canyon Dam in February 2007 will be lower. The scheduled releases during February will be 9,000 cfs from 5AM to 14,500 cfs to 7PM. A total of 605,000 acre-fee (an average of 10,900 cfs) are scheduled to be released in February 2007. Releases in March 2007 are scheduled to be 600,000 acre-feet for the month (an average of 9,800 cfs).

Fishing Forecast:

The lower water levels of February could be very good for the current fishing as of late. The recent river flows of 9,000 cfs to 17,500 cfs have proposed some challenge. At various riffles the trout haven’t been as accessible. They have been out of reach in some places. Therefore lower water could provide potential at finding fish in shallow riffles. Especially as the midge hatches become more prolific.
