Today’s Crowd Rating:

Upriver: 1.0

Walk-In: 1.0

Key:
1 = Sleep late and fish where you want.
10 = Very crowded, get up early!

Today’s Weather:

Today was clear and sunny all day with a slight breeze from the southwest. The high was 50 and the low was 35.

Today’s River Flows:

Releases from Glen Canyon Dam in December 2006 will average 13,000
cubic feet per second (cfs) with a total of 800,000 acre-feet scheduled
to be released for the month.  On Mondays through Fridays in December,
daily release fluctuations due to load following will likely vary
between a low of 9,000 cfs (during late evening and early morning
off-peak hours) to a high of 17,000 cfs (during daylight and early
evening on-peak hours).  On Saturdays, release fluctuations will likely
vary between a low of 9,000 cfs to a high of 16,000 cfs.  On Sundays,
release fluctuations will likely vary between a low of 9,000 cfs to a
high of 15,500 cfs.

.

Today’s Fly Fishing:

Fishing was much improved today. The water flow dropped in the afternoon. Fish were feeding on glo-bugs, midges and San Juan worms. It seemed they were interested in just about anything once the water level went down. Look for trout in shallow riffles and drop offs. Try adjusting your weight to get down where they are at.

Today’s Walk-in Fishing:

Sorry no new reports received today. Wind is very difficult at this section, perhaps nobody was there today.

The higher river flow has made the boulder field a definite challenge. The big rock fished pretty well today. San juan worms were the choice fly.

Spin Fishing Report:

A big chunk of lead and a glo bug, or san juan worm has been very productive. This is a sure fire way to hook into a few rainbows when they are holding in deeper water along the main channel.

Projected River Flows:

Releases in January 2007 will likely be very similar to December 2006.
A total of 800,000 acre-feet (an average of 13,000 cfs) are scheduled
to be released in January 2007

Water year 2007 (which began on October 1, 2006) is off to a good
start.  Precipitation in the Colorado River Basin in October 2006 was
over 200 percent of average, and Lake Powell increased by 6.2 feet
during the month, in large part due to exceptional precipitation events
in the regions surrounding the lake.

Fishing Forecast

As it stands the fishing has been so good lately and will likely only get better, as we have had calm weather conditions. This along with very low crowds and good river flows will make for some good fishing.
