Today’s Fly Fishing
I guess the trout get another day off, as tomorrow is Thanksgiving and there was literally one boat on the river today. There is a small group of us going on the river tomorrow, and I just have a hunch we are going to be the only lucky fools out there. That can means only one thing for the upcoming weekend, it ought to really good. All the typical fly patterns picked up strikes for those anglers on the river today. I think that we are going to have great fishing for the rest of the November and into December when we see an increase in the water flows. If you would like to make reservations for this weekend on Thursday, November 23rd, please call #928-355-2220. Our shop will be closed on Thanksgiving, and will reopen at 6:00 AM on Friday, November 24th. Starting at 6:00 AM on Friday, please call #800-962-9755. Happy Thanksgiving!
Today’s Walk-in Fishing
Gingers scuds have been the fly of choice, when fished deep with a good deal of weight. Zebra midges and san juan worms are turning a few as well. The key for this area is to cover a lot of water and switch up your rigs constantly, while making adjustments to your weight. Long leaders, plenty of split shot, and strike indicators are a must, along with slack in your line and extended drifts.
Spin Fishing Report:
Use a 1/4 Oz. chrome Kastmasters and when back trolling over water at about 8′ to 12′ in depth. Be sure to give your Kastmaster time to sink before starting the retrieve. When retrieving give the Kastmaster a twitch or two to create a wobble, which gives it action and a floundering appearance. Also try Mepps spinners, specifically the Black Fury in shallower water. The only other technique to add to your bag of tricks is go deep with glo bugs and bounce them on the bottom.
Projected River Flows
In December 2006, releases will be increased from the November level. An average flow release is going to be 13,000 cubic feet per second.
Fishing Forecast
As it stands the fishing has been so good lately and will likely only get better, as we have had plenty of sunshine and calm weather temperatures. This along with very low crowds has really made the fishing exceptional.
