JD Miller

JD Miller grew up 5 minutes from the South Platte River near Denver, CO and has been fly fishing most of his life.   He began his guiding career at 18 on his home waters of the Colorado Front Range, but after graduating from the University of Colorado with a B.S. in Operations Management, he moved to Island Park, ID to be closer to the famed waters around Yellowstone National Park.  Prior to working here at Lees Ferry, JD spent his winter months exploring and guiding in Patagonia Chile.  He has fished extensively throughout the Western United States, from redfish trips in south Texas to steelhead on the Pacific Coast.

In addition to guiding, JD is a commercial fly tier and contract fly designer for Montana Fly Company.  His innovative patterns have been featured in Southwest Fly Fishing magazine. JD is also the managing editor of RockyMtnFly.com, an online informational website dedicated to fly fishing in the Rocky Mountains.

When not on the water, JD enjoys wing shooting with his yellow lab, archery hunting, reading about the American West, and hiking the “less traveled” wilderness areas of the Rockies.  He is also actively involved with wildlife conservation, especially cold water fisheries. He spent several years on the Board of Directors for his TU chapter and continues to donate his time and skills to the Henry’s Fork Foundation.
